The quote in the graphic is from the lyrics of a Fiona Apple song.
"Hunger hurts and I want him so bad oh it kills / But I know I'm a mess he don't want to clean up / I got to fold 'cause these hands are too shaky to hold / Hunger hurts but starving works when it costs too much to love."
She's in love, but it will never work, so she resolves to starve herself (of love). She implies that it doesn't work to starve yourself (of food).
All I'm saying is they're using the quote totally backwards.
